Short narrative biography

Dr Abdelkhirane studied medicine at Bordeaux 2 University, France, where he graduated as a Doctor in 1986. He then started a specialty in Cardiology during which he published many international papers in the specific field of echocardiography and more particularly in non invasive hemodynamics and diastology. He afterwards worked on invasive hemodynamics field which led him to angioplasty since 1990. At the same time, he got a DEA at Bordeaux I University in Pharmacology and Neurosciences, option receptology.

He set up practice in Casablanca in 1995 and since then, has taken an active part in the influence of interventional cardiology in Morocco; he bustled with the lack of epidemiologic data of the cardiovascular factors in the country. This is the reason why he has led many national and international conferences and has published many articles in medical journals such as Echocardiography, American Journal of Cardiology, Archives des maladies du Coeur et des Vaisseaux, Mathematical Modelling of Natural Phenomena (www.mmnp-journal.org).

Dr Abdelkhirane is a member of numerous national Advisory Boards. He has been a country councillor of the Mediterranean League against Thrombo-embolic Diseases since 2005. Since May 2007, he has been a member of the Commission of Coordination of the Writing of guidelines for a good medical practice in Morocco. He is also the reporter on Acute Coronary Syndrome within the Cardiology Commission.

Dr Abdelkhirane is also the Head of a publishing company which is specialized in medical magazines and monographs and he has been the editor of the first national magazine (Risques et Interventions Cardio Vasculaires, ISS:1114-8594) from 2000 to 2015.

Eventually, after many responsibilities in various societies, Dr Abdelkhirane was the President of the Moroccan Atherosclerosis Society from 2004 to 2008. His priority focused on the optimization of the management of Acute Coronary Syndromes and specially Primary Angioplasty of AMI through involvment of institutional bodies and sensibilization of general public.

In parallel, he has added Aero Space Medicine to his leisure, which is Aviation and he has finally obtained the title of Professional Pilot with Instruments Rating Certification which allowed him to ask for the title of Certified Expert Doctor (AME) for pilots by the Civil Aviation Authorities (CAA) in France (1993) as well as in Morocco (2000). In 2006, this passion gave him the opportunity to take part in the creation of the Medical Staff of Aerospace Experts, Rabat, which led him to be the Chairman of Medical Expert Board in the CAA in Morocco (2006-2016). Nowadays, he is a senior consultant for CAA in Morocco.

Since 2017, his attraction for coronary artery circulation assessment has made him work with LERMA (Laboratoire d’Etudes et de Recherche en Mathématiques Appliquées) in Ecole Mohammedia des Ingénieurs (EMI) in Rabat, jointly with Bordeaux INRIA (Institut National de Recherche en Informatique et Automatique), to develop tools for non-invasive studies of coronary flow as well as FFR (Fractional Flow Reserve), thanks to biomathematics and computation on atherosclerotic arteries.

Research

Taking part into developing and applying studies, as well as in clinical implementations, in all fields, may help clinicians to assess coronary circulation physiology, and then, lead to the best making decision ways for coronary revascularization.
